I’ve always believed in fate and destiny. Meeting Devin was definitely my destiny. I cannot say Devin and I had a whirlwind Bollywood romance. We had a more unconventional relationship where we found each other at a time we both least expected it. We were going through massive changes in our lives, but together we have been through many life changes, and that is what I believe brought us closer together. We knew after a while that we did not want to be with anyone else. Devin finally proposed to me on top of the Roc in Rockefeller Center. Can you imagine going to look at the whole city, and then have 15 brown people come out of nowhere with their phones out?! Devin got down on one knee and proposed with the most gorgeous sapphire ring. He even had the ring placed in a glass container with a single rose inside, just like my favorite Disney movie Beauty and the Beast.
Would you believe me if I said my wedding was planned out in about 30 minutes around a table with some really good friends? Well, it was. After getting engaged we met with a few of my friends, one being a wedding planner, and another being a decorator/florist and planned out around 80% of our big day. We were engaged on April 2, 2017, and married on October 21, 2017. We planned our wedding in 6 months. Being Indo- Caribbean, we had a fusion wedding with a traditional Sangeet in my backyard, to a huge Hindu ceremony in a temple, and then finally an American reception at a Country Club. Both of our upbringing was strongly influenced by our religions. Our great grandparents were from South India so our Hindu ceremony held true to our roots. The entire wedding process seemed to flow despite the time. I am notoriously known for being a picky person when it comes to details, but I got everything I wanted and more. It was every girl’s dreams of a fairytale wedding. My all-time favorite Disney movie is Beauty and the Beast (like I mentioned before), so I asked my fiancé can we somehow incorporate this into our wedding, he agreed instantly. We discussed with our planner and decorator how the theme can be incorporated without it looking like a child’s birthday. They quickly went to work, and our reception became this whimsical fairytale. My bridal gown was my something borrowed. It originally belonged to my older sister from when she got married. All we did was take it to the tailor and put in some of my own style. I wanted a traditional Grand Hindu wedding ceremony, which I received and was left speechless. My bridal outfits were the most intricate and elaborate attire that was custom made by the amazing Zardozi Couture. An important part aside from my outfits, was my hair and makeup which were done by Beauty By Tamanna. She truly outdid herself for both the Hindu Ceremony and Wedding reception. During the entire event, we truly felt like royalty.
My advice to all brides is that life will throw you all types of misfortune and curve balls, but if your spouse is truly your number one supporter it will all flow. Just like mine did.
