Mithulan and I met in high school, but we knew of each other since I moved to his neighbourhood in Scarborough during 8th grade. We saw each other around the neighbourhood during the summer before I went to high school. We never officially introduced ourselves nor talked to each other despite being in the same school and neighbourhood, however we were in the same Tamil class. Mithulan was the type of person who brought the class to life by doing and saying the craziest things and his sense of humour caught my interest. Eventually, a few months later, we started to talk to each other on MSN via mutual friends, and the rest is history.
Our wedding planning started well before a year in advance and it was definitely a long process. We were surprised to find that people were already booking so early in advance and we didn’t waste any time in booking our vendors right away. Being in Toronto is definitely a perk, since there are plenty of talented vendors here. We would advise future couples to do their research in advance and contact vendors to get an idea of what you’re looking for and what really matters to them. We are super grateful for having chosen our wedding planner, Abi from Geethams Events, since he took care of all the details for the wedding, including the phenomenal decor. We would highly recommend him!
Mithulan and I got married on June 23rd, 2018 at Château Le Jardin Event Venue (I’m a complete France/French fanatic so the name of the venue really hit home with me as well as the beautiful venue itself). This year also happened to be the FIFA World Cup and I was absolutely thrilled to share my love for France with the French flag in my wedding attire (and they also won this year!!!!) We had our reception a week later, which was a relief for us since it gave us time to breathe in-between and work on the reception without having to worry about the wedding. Our Hindu ceremony was so organized, on-time and just magical. It went by really fast and I’m glad our friends and family had encouraged us to enjoy every moment since it would go by quickly. Our videographer, Ramesh from Butterfly Squad, did a stellar job of capturing our big day while keeping it true to our personalities.
Our reception happened at Chandni Grand Banquet Hall and it was definitely a night to remember. It was a super busy week leading up to the reception, but with the help of our friends and family, it turned out amazing with lots of surprises! Mithulan and I learned our entrance dance within a few hours, thanks to my super talented cousin, Abina (@stepsby_abina). She also choreographed a surprise cousins’/aunts’ dance and the bridesmaids’ dance performance, in which I made a surprise appearance! Our Emcees for the night were two of our close friends, Habe and Lucksson, who kept the crowd entertained all throughout the event.
All in all, we would advise future brides and grooms to enjoy the process – which of course can be tough when there’s a lot of stress and pressure for everything to be perfect. But remember that your friends and family are there for you and to delegate when you need to. Check out some of the amazing photos captured by the amazing Treasured Photography!
