A white lie got us married.
This is our story.
We both are from Singapore. We met via our friends. We were match-made by them. We met when I was 16 and he was 18.Our friends lied to both of us that we liked each other but the truth was that we have no clue of each other’s existence.
My husband found out about this lie & wanted to tell me about this. He contacted another friend of mine (cause i had no Handphone) and told me to call him. But when I did call him, he did not breathe a single thing about the lie, instead he talked to me casually. That one phone call led to many calls in the next 2 months. And then he finally decided to ask me be his girlfriend, that too on my important exam day, with a rose.
We faced many problems. My family was against our relationship. We even broke up for a bit, but eventually got back together. We stayed through all the difficulties. We studied hard. I got into nursing, he got into the police force. We worked hard & my family accepted him eventually.
We solemnized our wedding on the 2nd of April 2017 and traditionally got married on the 24th of March 2018 at the Holy Tree Sri Balasubramaniam Temple, Singapore. It has been 10 years since we are together. We have a lot of differences. We fight like cats and dogs. We aren’t a perfect couple. Many people we know always think we are perfect, we don’t fight or have any arguments but actually its total opposite. We’ve had many arguments, misunderstandings over this 10 years. Its never have been perfect. My reason to share our story is to let others know that just because a couple has been together for so many years, it doesn’t mean that that couple is perfect. There is a lot you don’t see that occurs behind the scenes: it’s the fights, it’s arguments, it’s giving into each other, and it’s that love that made us stronger. I am glad to say our love story succeeded. To all those who are fighting to make their love story a success, be patient, stay united and never ever give up on each other!
