While planning, I was given advice from my recently wedded friends that “not everything goes as planned, but enjoy the day for the special day that it is”. I have to say we never imagined things would take a unplanned turn like this, but looking back, this was the best advice. We are so grateful that we were able to get married against the odds.
Our wedding was impacted by the pandemic, like many others. We had been planning for our March 27 2020 wedding in Toronto, Ontario. Unfortunately, days before our wedding, there were changes being made in response to the pandemic – reducing the number of people attending gatherings, closing of non-essential businesses. We cut down our list to 100, our venue closed, we cut our list down to 50, our relatives from abroad were not able to attend due to the border closing, our photographer and videographer could not carry through due to regulations, the shipment containing karthihai poo we ordered for my bridal bouquet was cancelled.. All these changes were literally happening days before the wedding! We were very torn between postponing or powering through. But after being in a long distance relationship, we were determined to get married. Our wedding took place at home, with just 20 people of our immediate family. It was a special day that just reminded us that in the end, it’s the little things like love, family and happiness that make all the difference.
We would love for our wedding to be featured – to inspire couples who are going through the same thing and also to acknowledge the vendors who really helped make the day magical despite the circumstances. One of my fears was not having photographs as memories to look back at. My brother in law and a friend of ours stepped in and captured some beautiful moments for us.
