Their Story:
Thank you so much for giving the opportunity to share our unique love story. I am not the best is putting words together.
I knew my hubby from high school, when we dated other people. He was a very good friend of mine but we never thought anything would happen between us. Mostly because we were dating others – like each other’s friends.
He was a man who came from a strict family. We always kept in touch through our lives, but once I was single again we kind of finally started dating in 2011. I was so nervous as I already had an experience where it failed for me. I was nervous thinking if this would happen or if his parents would accept me. We had our ups and downs, but one thing was for sure – I knew he was serious about me and he would do anything to be with me. I really loved him.
Fast forward to summer of 2015, just out of the blue he asked me to come over to his house and introduced me to his parents as a friend. But they knew I was more than a friend as he doesn’t really take girls home. At that point his father was having surgery but it turned into something serious where he was admitted in the hospital for three months. We almost lost him. Throughout that time, I literally got to know all his sisters because I would spend so much time at the hospital. In October of 2015, once he was out of the hospital, his parents wanted to meet my family. Everything was discussed out in the open (specifically my past). One thing lead to another and I had a ring on my finger by November 2015. My brother got married in January of 2016 so he joined me on the trip to India/Malaysia as my fiance. At that point, I was on top of the world. My mother in law suggested us to get married soon so she wanted to buy all sorts of things in India. Also he is Sri Lankan Tamil and I am South Indian Tamil. So I pretty much bought all of our outfits back home. Once we came back in February of 2016 back to Toronto, no one was really sure when the date would be set. A couple of months passed by and my father in law was supposed to go into surgery again. At that point we had to set the date for our wedding as we were nervous something terrible can happen to my father in law. They set the date for November 12, 2016 – but we only had like less than 3 months to plan a wedding. I had a simple Christian wedding on November 12, 2016 and had a simple lunch at the hall church. We didn’t have a grand wedding because I simply didn’t want to blow money through the roof. We went on our honeymoon to Bahia Principe Ambar in Punta Cana.
Coming from a Tamil background it’s not easy to convince Tamil parents to make the move he did . But he is a man of his words. I love him so much. Well it’s amazing how one door closes and God helps you to open another door. I found out I was pregnant just a month after our wedding. We bought our little townhome in March of 2017 and I gave birth in August of 2017. Can you believe it, sometimes fairy-tales do come true. It may be delayed, but it does happen. I always believed in happy endings and romance, this was a snippet of my happy ending.
